Cheap Sousaphone

Cheap Sousaphone

Where, how, and is it difficult to play bagpipes?

I have always wanted to learn how to play the bagpipe but it seems to be a mystical instrument that I’ve only seen people in parades play. What should I expect to pay for a set of beginner (CHEAP) pipes and how do i go about learning to play them? I live in Columbus, IN. We have a Scottish festival and my decendants are scottish but the the only instruments i can play are the piano and trumpet. I know I’ve got the air to play the pipes because I can play a sousaphone as well. Can someone direct me to an inexpensive way to learn. I can’t even find pipes on ebay other than retarded little charms.

If you get cheap pipes you can almost guarantee that they won’t last more than a year or two. You can get real African Blackwood pipes for about $1000 or a bit more. However, the first thing you need to get is a practice chanter. Learn how to play that, and then think about pipes. No one starts on the full pipes.

Sometimes the best way to learn is to find a pipe band in your area and ask them if they provide instruction. Most of them have some sort of instruction for prospective members and it’s usually free to those who intend to join the band.

Would someone like to donate a bassoon or a sousaphone to me? I’ll pay for shipping!?

i would like to learn the bassoon and the state is stupid and buys us cheap sousaphones that are always flat so the band has to tune down so they arent the only ones that are flat. and (…omg i just saw the 50cent vitamin water commercial with the orchestra, that was funny. that’d be awsome for him to conduct us…except most people there like rock…anyway…) band funding sux. the chorus gets these nice chairs but they stand for concerts, we get crap, and our stands are falling apart…Is there a site that has money for bands etc.?

I highly doubt that you will get a bassoon free or even cheap. It was a huge deal for me to get mine for $800 plus the cost of an overhaul. If you live in the US, you can try going to your nearest Music and Arts Center store and asking them to check their national inventory. They’ve been expanding a lot lately and have bought up some local music stores that sold or rented bassoons and since M.A.C. doesn’t rent bassoons, those instruments are being sold at decent prices for used instruments. That’s where you’re most likely to find a good instrument in playable condition for relatively cheap. Failing that, I got mine on Ebay. You could also ask at local schools and colleges and find out if they have any bassoons for loan, rent, or sale.
